Here comes "Spyder Man"---

It was late in the day at the James Dean Memorial in Cholame, California. The sun was going low to the horizon, nearing the actual time long ago on September 30th 1955, when the Spyder James Dean was piloting  fatally collided with another car killing the young actor 47 years ago to the day.

We were all at the Jack Ranch Restaurant eating burgers when we heard the low whine of a silky engine as it pulled up under the big canopy-like tree that enshrouded the steel sculptured  memorial erected to honour James Dean by Seita Ohnishi some years ago.

Looking out the window over our burgers we saw a silver bullet-like missile with the number "130" painted on it. We jumped out of our seats to seize the moment...

Please ask for permission to reproduce, thank you.
(Above) This gorgeous car is an exact replica of the Porsche Spyder 550 James Dean was driving on date of his fatal car accident at the 41-46 highway intersection on September 30, 1955 in Cholame, CA. The fatal accident occurred just down the road from where this photo was taken in front of the James Dean Memorial.

This particular 550 Spyder Porsche is owned by Lawrence Guynes of Foster City, CA. He was gracious enough to actually let us sit in this rolling work of art. It is truly a fantastic machine. I call it "rolling sex."

Lawrence is seen sitting on his 550 Spyder in the above photograph. His goal is to make it the most authentic "James Dean Spyder" in the world. We think he has succeeded so far, but he is still adding improvements to the car as we speak. This automobile was used in the UK film about James Dean.
"Little Bastard" and happy friends...The license plate is a reproduction of the actual one James Dean had on his car in 1955.

Yes! A great machine!
