Heading west into Cholame, into the sun at 5:50 PM on September 30, 2002
Here is a view that would be similar to one Jimmy saw at about the time he saw Turnupseed's car. The sun would be reflecting off the silver paint on Jimmy's Spyder, making it blend and reflect the gray of the pavement. The sun may have been reflecting off  Turnupseed's mirrors, distracting him. Dinner time was approaching...about one mile down the road is Cholame, CA. A little further on is Paso Robles and a warm room to sleep in for Jimmy...

The road entrance to your right was not there in 1955. The main Highway 46 to your left has been re-paved since 1955.

The folks in the photo on the side of the road are trying to take in the moment of time and the total significance of what happened that day a long short 47 years ago-their homage in time and space to an icon. An unknown person who came and left has nailed a large panoramic photo-collage of the accident scene to a fence near the intersection.

The world's most accurate James Dean Spyder 550 replica is here also...the sun making love to the  silver paint with playful, dancing rays reflecting over the "130" numbers. The wind is blowing everyone's hair back. You can feel the dry air on your lips. You blink your eyes. The cars are whipping by with their headlights on--almost like they are acknowledging a strange, distant eerie homage to a legend. Huge semi-trucks are giving bellowing blasts on their horns in the warm air.

The experience makes you think of The Twilight Zone, switchblades, apples and The Little Prince. The mind then rests on love...and you realize that James Dean is really not dead.
